The rapidly growing interest in assisted living facilities is a positive development for both generations, according to Karine Devillers, who is currently converting her home in Zellik into such a home, in full compliance with urban standards.

A secondary living unit may be created within a single-family home, provided it does not exceed one third of the total structural volume. There is also a notification requirement. The Flemish Region has awarded Karine a grant to convert her home into an assisted living facility. She is delighted with the information and advice she has received from the housing information desk and the cooperation she has enjoyed with other relevant municipal services in Asse. She is constantly singing the praises of the assisted living home as an alternative form of accommodation.
