The Spanish language and culture is found all over the world: 450 million people speak Spanish in no less than 20 countries. The language usually conjures up images of sun-drenched scenery but from now on it may also make people think of the Instituto Cervantes.

The Spanish language and culture is found all over the world: 450 million people speak Spanish in no less than 20 countries. The language usually conjures up images of sun-drenched scenery but from now on it may also make people think of the Instituto Cervantes. This Spanish cultural centre in Brussels has a crystal-clear mission: to promote the language and culture of Spain and the Spanish-speaking countries in order to strengthen ties with other cultures. The centre organises all kinds of Spanish courses and cultural activities. 'Our activities are designed to help people become acquainted with the authentic character of the Spanish-speaking countries. The world opened up for you by the Spanish language is much richer than the one you find in the tourist brochures', says Maria Gonzalez, the head of the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels. (RK, nov 2013)
