A Lambic beer is more than your average beer. As well as having a rich history, the beverage is brewed with passion and goes down a storm with beer lovers. Eight breweries and blending facilities in the Pajottenland and the Zenne Valley are to open their doors to the general public on Sunday, 21 April, so people will have an opportunity to get a glimpse behind the scene in these traditional-style businesses, while enjoying the distinct flavour of a whole variety of Lambic beers. ‘One-quarter of the visitors to our open breweries day (the Geuze Tour) is made up of people from outside Belgium. They talk about our beers with so much enthusiasm that it is almost as if they are on a pilgrimage. It is striking how much these people from abroad appreciate our old traditional-style Geuze. They are amazed at how we manage in such a simple way to make an outstanding beer that can be kept for up to 20 or 30 years’, says Yves Panneels from the Traditional Lambic Beer Council (HORAL).
