Akkerdjieje, akkerdjieje (Goddamn it, goddamn it): a blast from the past. This expletive used to be uttered by one of the many TV characters the Flemish actor Paul Ricour played long before Mega Mindy, the gnome Plop & Samson overran our screens. It was his portrayal of Polycarpus ‘Pol’ Tack, seen in De Opkopers, Merlina, Postbus X and Interflix, that is indelibly engraved in the memories of a lot of Flemish people now in their 20s and 30s. Even now people are anxious to question Ricour about his work acting in television programmes for young people in the 1980s. ‘I am pleased about it. And you know I'm quite at guessing people's ages from the programmes they mention. People who refer to Merlina are generally in their 30s, while Postbus X fans tend to be in their 20s.’ After his time acting in TV programmes for young audiences, Ricour became involved in the production side.  For the VRT (Flemish Radio and Television Corporation) he worked behind the scenes on various programmes including Flikken and Hof van assisen. He is now the producer for the Cour & Jardin theatre company. (RK, dec 2012)
