Buying straight from the farmer

The demand for healthy meat is growing by leaps and bounds, with more and more consumers anxious to confirm the origin of the meat and ensure animals are treated well.

‘Our commitment to providing them with guarantees on both counts is why they like to buy directly from our organic farm’, says Seppe Holemans. ‘Our Dubbel Doel farm now has 140 cows. We have 150 customers who can come and buy directly from us on Saturdays, including 50 regular customers who visit our farm shop in Gooik at least once every fortnight. Besides meat, we also provide dairy products. ‘We also supply to community support agriculture groups and participate in Lokaal Halle, the first cooperative supermarket in the region with a full range of zero-miles and sustainable food products.’
