The milliner Kathleen Robberechts’ home is the venue for a variety of workshops she organises for various associations. She designs party and summer hats on the basis of commissions. Her winter collection of felt hats is produced during  the summer months. 'I just start creating and then I see what I end up with. Once all the hats in their basic form are completed I start on the finishing touches. That is the best way of making out the collection's theme. 'Kathleen trained as a style and colour advisor but tends to rely on her intuition more than anything else. 'The textbooks dictate what the best hat should be for a round-faced woman, for example, but I have no qualms about breaking the rules. The face has to be beautiful, and that is achieved by offering the right colour. As far as I am concerned, the woman takes precedence over the hat. The whole thing has to be done to perfection.'
