She is a face familiar to many people in Flanders owing to the newscast on the Eén television channel and the news report magazine Login on the Canvas channel: 24-year-old Danira Boukhriss Terkessidis from Vilvoorde is one of the youngest faces working for the Flemish radio and television broadcaster, the VRT (the owner of Eén and Canvas). It was inevitable that she would end up working as a reporter, when you realise her mother used to produce news reports and current events were always closely followed in her home. ‘Some events can really affect me but as a journalist you have to remain neutral and keep calm when sensational things are happening.’ After completing her education she swapped Vilvoorde for Brussels. ‘Vilvoorde is a bit like a brother or sister for me: I do grumble about it from time to time but if somebody else says something unkind about the place, I then leap to its defence.’ Although her family name suggests otherwise, the Dutch language was never a stumbling block in the Boukhriss Terkessidis household. ‘Language is very important if you want to go far in the world.’ (RK, okt 2014)
